With the programme, all of our volunteers have been offered the possibility of joining the organization to carry out activities of their choice. This programme is intended to facilitate volunteers who will not participate in the summer construction site camps.
The volunteer is free to choose whether they want to carry out short, medium or long term stints of humanitarian aid work with the organization. During the activities, certain volunteers of PMJ will be accommodated by local families in order to aid them acquaint themselves with the local population; others will be in groups and accommodated in apartments.
Types of activities
Education
The volunteers can teach in primary or secondary schools.
The organization also welcomes interns in public and private schools or in centres for teaching reading and writing skills
By further educating the people, it allows us to raise awareness amongst the population.
Ways of raising awareness
Children’s rights
The children that are subject to trafficking are exploited in the coffee and cocoa plantations of neighboring countries. These children have no education and in the context of health conditions; they live in subhuman conditions and they are often found on the streets. Our objective is to raise awareness to the population regarding the rights of children: their right to life, education and health.
HIV/AIDS
The proliferation of HIV/AIDS considerably affects the population. Despite multiple media campaigns supported by our governments our efforts are yet to be manifested. JHL International wants to put its volunteers in contact with the population against biased debates.
Health
A specially named programme ' stop malaria' has been implemented every year in the villages of Togo and Benin. By means of its bilateral co-operation, JHL has acknowledged the need for both of the countries to acquire primary health care.
This programme is addressed in particular to infants and it essentially consists of the distribution of impregnated mosquitoes.
Environment
The area in which we live needs to be protected and supported. JHL International, in its protection of the environment policy has put in place decontamination projects and the planting of young plants.
The organization helps in the household garbage collection, the cleaning of the beach, the completion of a drainage system to allow water to reach all parts of the region.
Agriculture
This programme primarily concerns the southwest of Togo where the soil is not fertile. Scientists have discovered species of trees-that are up to the volunteers to plant-which the foliage produces a very rich humus. The whole process is completely natural and efficient and it does not cost anything
